Everything You Need to Know in One Place
What is The Listening Room?
The Listening Room is a private and neutral space where you can speak freely and be heard patiently.
It is a one-to-one conversation without judgement, interruption or pressure.
Why might I need a neutral listener?
People close to us may care deeply for us, but they may also have opinions, expectations and
preconceived ideas about us. Because they know our past and circumstances, they may reach a
conclusion before fully understanding what we are trying to say. A neutral listener does not carry that
personal history or expectation. This may make it easier for you to speak openly.
Who is the Chief Listener?
The Chief Listener is Vishal Tibrewala. He is not a therapist or counsellor. He offers his time and
attention as a listener. More information about him is available on the About the Founder page.
Is it therapy or counselling?
No. The Listening Room does not provide therapy, counselling, diagnosis or medical treatment. It is not. a replacement for professional mental health support.
Who can book a session?
Any adult who feels the need to speak openly may request a session. You do not have to be going through a crisis. You may wish to discuss a concern, a decision, a personal experience or simply
something that has been on your mind.
Do I need to prepare before coming?
No preparation is required. You may come with a clear subject, or you may begin by saying that you do
not know where to start.
Will I be judged?
The purpose of The Listening Room is to offer a respectful and non-judgemental space. You will not be measured against your past, your relationships or anyone else's expectations.
Will I be given advice?
Advice will not be given automatically. The first purpose is to listen and understand. You may ask for an opinion or suggestion if you feel it would be helpful.
Why is only one appointment taken each evening?
Only one appointment is taken so that the conversation receives complete attention. It also ensures that the session does not have to be hurried because another person is waiting.
How long is a session?
The expected duration of the session will be confirmed when the appointment is scheduled. Sessions are generally planned between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
Will the conversation remain private?
Yes. The conversation will be treated as private and confidential. Exceptions may apply where there is an immediate risk of serious harm or where disclosure is legally required.
Can I attend if I am already seeing a therapist or counsellor?
Yes, but The Listening Room should only be considered an additional personal space. It should not replace the treatment, guidance or support provided by a qualified professional.
Where does the session fee go?
All proceeds are contributed to My Green Society. My Green Society works on practical environmental initiatives towards carbon neutrality.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes. Please inform us as early as possible so that the evening can be made available to someone else.
